The 8 month shots

Sort of an impromptu shoot for his 8 month photos…much better than his 7 month ones which do not exist (bad Mum!!)

A lovely friend, Tarni, sent him the Wallabies beanie :) He is wearing a wallabies nappy too but the little bugger wouldn’t sit still for half a second to catch a pic of the nappy from behind.

8 months old

Can you believe it, Ethan is 8 months old. Where on earth has the time gone, before we know it we are going to have a toddler!

He has been slowly but surely recovering form his bout of Bronchiolitis. Still working on the feeding thing but we are getting there. Haven’t put him on the scales for what seems like forever, i guess in part i am scared of seeing just how much he has lost from being so unwell. Maybe i should do it tomorrow…maybe!

Developmentally though he is going great guns.  He now has 3 words in his vocab (excluding the gaaaaahhhhh sound he loves to make) But he has Mum, Dad, Bub down pat. He did say No today but i am 99% sure that was just a fluke!

He has also learnt how to stand. First it was just to his knees but then i went into his room to find him hanging over the cot rail and he was quite pleased with himself! So we have now had to lower his cot base to the bottom level :-(

So i would safely say his is pretty much spot on for his development for an 8 month old. I still stand by that they forgot to tell him he was prem!

Just a couple of pics of my clever little man

Oh how much you have grown

I was putting Ethans ID band in his memory box when i spotted his newborn one just under one of his name cards. Both were on his ankle at birth and the new on he is almost 8 months old!

The size difference never ceases to amaze me

Admission to hospital

Ethan has just had his first hospital admission since he came home.

He was seemingly getting a cold last Friday, you know the snotty nose, grumpy baby thing. Didn’t think too much of it. Just tried to keep him warm and fluids up. By Saturday night he was sounding fairly wheezy so we tried him on some ventolin. That had zero effect but he seemed ok within himself. So he had his bottle and went to bed.

Sunday he was really working to breathe and was sounding really wheezy. Plus he wasn’t really wanting any fluids or food, for those who know Ethan that is so unlike him! So I headed down to emergency with him.

He was triaged and taken through to Resus. They started the usual ventolin every 30 minutes x3. As suspected it had no effect on his wheeze at all and by this time he had gone all day with nothing to drink at all. He was sent off for x-rays and he was admitted with ?bronchiolitis.

Over the next couple of days my poor little boy got worse and worse. It was heartbreaking to watch him rock back and forth with each breathe. And he was so tired, i could compare him to a floppy doll. There was just nothing there.

He had a repeat chest x-ray which now showed he had some patches on his lower right lobe, so he started on antibiotics. He also had an NPA done, which is basically a test where they suck the snot out of him nose/throat. This came back RSV positive. :-(

Thankfully Thursday he woke up a different boy, although still quite wheezy he was smiling. Not feeding as well as he was but still taking some fluids and gobbling down his solids.

Seen the paed who was happy for him to go home. The wheeze seems to be a bit of a mystery. Whilst wheezing does fit with RSV it never changed with Ethan. So whilst he was improved the wheeze was still quite noticeable. So he has 2 weeks to clear it or we are back to see Dr Dunstan to figure out what exactly is going on with that. He is also going to see him again in 2 months for a premmie check, seems he is not impressed that a 33 weeker got off so easy with follow ups!

Happy Half Birthday Ethan

Its hard to believe that you are already 6 months old, really where has the time gone. Each and everyday you amaze me, you are doing so well. Your smile is enough to light up a room and your laugh it is truly contagious. Never ever can i repay the Dr’s and nursing staff that looked after you day in day out. Without their dedication and support who knows what would have been the outcome.

Each and everyday i hope you know that you are LOVED!

Slow down you move too fast

Well Ethan is doing his best to make Mummy sad that her baby is growing up. His latest trick is to get up on all 4’s and rock back and forth before launching himself forwards. I want him to slow down, i keep telling him he is only 5 and a half months old there is no need to rush things, but do you think he will listen…NO!

So here we are, trying our best to be fully mobile. The last photo is the back end of him rocking backwards.
